Have you been frustrated by the basic apologetics taught in your Sunday school class? Do many of the popular texts sold in Christian bookstores seem intellectually sparse?

If so, this book is probably for you. The thing that I liked most about this book was that it didn’t start from a Christian point of view. It didn’t even start from a Theistic point of view. It started more or less from scratch and examined a spectrum of philosophical belief systems. The text then progressed very methodically to Theism and finally, Christianity.

Another great feature was the precision and rigor with which Mr. Giesler approaches each topic. Like exercise for the body, his way of thinking reinvigorated my own critical thinking. While I have l.geisled approached Christianity with skepticism, this text made me realize that I was insufficiently skeptical of almost everything else.

Plan to take your time reading and making notes as Mr. Giesler takes a “no stone unturned” approach normann each topic.

However, if you have been starving for substance, this will seem like a fine meal. Giesler provides very helpful summaries at the end of each chapter.

In addition to reinforcing what you’ve just read, these summaries are an easy-to-use reference for later use. This book was originally recommended to me by a friend who loaned me his copy. Since reading it, I have drawn upon it repeatedly while apolpgetics to educated, non-Christian friends. I am not a compulsive book buyer. However, it has proven so useful and enjoyable that I bought a copy of my own, even though I had already read the borrowed copy.

Norma will start of by saying that I first despised this book but then grew to love it. This text was required reading in my Apologetics course in Bible College. As I began to read this text, I tried to skim the material briefly and disdained my reading assignments. However, as I began my work as an Open Air Preacher on college campuses and street corners, this book because priceless. This text, if studied slowly and carefully, will give a person many tools in refuting the pagan world views so common in Western society.

This is not a book based on evidential apologetics such as Josh McDowell’s “Evidence that Demands a Verdict” but rather a philosophical approach to apologetics. I believe that the philosophical approach to apologetics is much more effective and Biblical in manner. Evidentialism assumes that man’s problem is a lack of information. While some scoffers have genuine questions that can be addressed through evidential apologetics, the majority of skeptics are running from God by attempting to hide behind smoke screens such as atheism or agnosticism.

This book deals very effectively with both weak and strong forms or atheism and agnosticism. Most “professing atheists” are nothing more than strong agnostics in reality. Geisler’s “Ten Step Proof” for the existence of God is excellent and practical to use in evangelism. One note however- I would not reccomend this book apart from first reading Norman Geisler’s “An Introduction to Philosophy: A Christian Perspective” in order to better grasp what he is saying in this text.

An excellent book that not only presents some of the evidential proofs for Christianity, but also delivers the logic and philosophy behind it. It from this work, which I went back to again and again, that I came to understand the correspondence theory l.gfisler truth as opposed to the coherence theorywhich as shaped my thinking to this day.

Correspondence is very consistent with propositional truth of Scripture, as well as a priori first things of existence byy is Thomist in origin and contradicts modern philosophy with its humanistic emphasis that truth begins l.geisller the mind. A must that rounds out an evidentialist approach, and teaches one how to think and stay mentally ahead of the philosophies that guide modern thought and science. Book Review: Christian Apologetics by Norman Geisler | Apologetics

Intelligent Design Introductory Guide. Admittedly, I’m not thoroughly read in Christian but have sufficient background to recognize Geisler as standing head and shoulders above others. I do have some criticism of this text, particularly the first several chapters. To put things briefly, Geisler is not a historian of philosophy and presents interpretations of key philosophers that appologetics not entirely accurate in order to make his counterarguments seem more powerful.

I think is important because there are stronger and more convincing readings of these philosophers that would strongly challenge Geisler’s arguments. This has the unfortunate dilemma of Geisler either being unaware of what these thinkers may be saying or unable to confront these stronger arguments.

Bottom line, though, pretty good stuff as long as you’re not arguing with a philosophy professor. I found the book in excellent quality.

It had been highlighted in but I knew about this in advance and so it was no problem. The chrisian is top shelf in it’s research and presentation.

I highly recommend both the book and the reseller. I would have given the book seller 5 stars but it did take more than a week to arrive and I have grown somewhat spoiled by receiving other books in nogman than a week. Still, the book was a good purchase and I am very pleased with it. One person found this helpful.
